As a provider of safety&security solutions focused on public transport we are constantly facing the challenge of managing multiple highly customized product releases for our clients. Therefore, Indanet scanned the market for SCM systems that could support us in a test driven and agile environment without increasing the costs for administration. Before having detected AccuRev I thought that branching and merging was a lot of additional work. Definitely not with AccuRev, though! Once you have worked with AccuRev’s stream based approach you won’t even think about bothering your colleagues with your untested future-release code anymore. You will either use the build-in private branches or create a task branch within no time. As AccuRev keeps track of all branch and merge processes you don’t have to do the thinking yourself. I am now convinced that AccuRev comes with no hidden costs for setup, administration or updates as these tasks are as easy as it gets. In addition, I have not met any other support team like the one AccuRev has. Together we have even created a solution to make the add-in for Visual Studio 2003 work with the German version. By exploiting the integrating capabilities of AccuRev with CruiseControl.NET and Bugzilla we have now created a very effective SCM architecture that has already boosted quality and time-to-market. Even as a mid-sized company we could instantly feel the positive impact that the introduction of AccuRev had on our day-to-day business. Fabian Hügle , Director Technology Center, INDANET Informations- und Datennetze GmbH |

“ The real benefit of AccuRev to the business is time to market. We are saving time on every release, and are more scalable in terms of the number of releases we are able to work on in parallel. We are able to make our dates and deliver quality releases, without requiring people to put in heroic efforts.” Shailaja Shankar, SVP of Engineering, McAfee |

"Fully integrating the Bangalore and UK operations was a critical requirement for the business. As the Bangalore team was new to our business and our software, the solution had to be easy to implement, learn and use, but still powerful enough to manage our software release process. AccuRev has quickly delivered a very elegant way to automate our Feature Driven agile development process so that both feature enhancements and issues from existing customers permeate into previous versions running in parallel. Our Bangalore team now works with our UK engineers as if a single seamless team." Tahir Hussein, Engineering Manager, Mediasurface |

"As a customer of AccuRev and Rally, NaviMedix is pleased that they are joining forces to offer seamless traceability across the entire Agile development lifecycle. In today's world of increasing audit and regulatory compliance, the importance of tracking project artifacts such as tasks and issues to the backing source control repository cannot be overstated. Together, AccuRev and Rally provide an optimal framework for Agile development teams." Paul Vienneau, Director, Software Development at NaviMedix |

"We are on track to upgrade all of our 400 users with AccuRev ahead of schedule. With the transition away from our mastership-based development tool to AccuRev, we will be able to easily manage our parallel development between our 10 development locations. The tests from our pilot indicate that this improvement, along with the speed gains of AccuRev, will enable significant administrative cost savings and an increase of productivity in the neighborhood of 30 percent in the first year." Michael Marrewa, PV's senior manager, Engineering |

"Our company provides mortgage services to regional and national investors and servicers. Sarbanes-Oxley compliance is critical to our clients and so our processes as a key vendor receive significant scrutiny through SAS 70 audits. AccuRev plays an important role by instilling confidence with the auditors in our management of source code and the software development life cycle. Source code is securely and safely maintained with separation of duties. AccuRev makes it easy to rollback to previous revisions if necessary. The various phases of the SDLC, including dev, test, stage and release, are clearly and easily maintained in separate streams as changes are approved and promoted through the life cycle. Developers can associate code changes to issue numbers in our trouble ticket system. Last, but certainly not least, developers maintain coding efficiency with AccuRev's streamlined processes and continue to complete projects in a timely manner without the annoying struggles of other code management systems. AccuRev has demonstrated its value to our company with many aspects. Thank you for designing a product that performs so well and helps us reach successful audits." Dave Lewis, IT/Audit Manager, Security Connections, Inc |

"We develop trading software for top tier banks which have very strong audit requirement and required a SCM solution that would meet the needs of our complex environment. AccuRev has been used here since 2005 and is a fantastic tool which helps us to manage hundreds of base streams, and thousands of user workspaces. AccuRev makes propagation of bug fixes a breeze. It has great tools for patching, merging, and browsing version history in multiple forms using GUI screens that give details to the complexity of the propagation paths, while allowing easy understanding of what has happened at each point. After migrating from RCS and VSS the time spent on tracking changes, merging differences and propagating fixes was reduced by 80%. Without AccuRev, coordinating large projects by development teams across multiple continents would have been almost impossible." Sergey Dayts, Sr. Product Developer, Misys TCM/Summit |
|
"With AccuRev, we can put its capabilities in the hands of the people who are actually working on these products. We don't need to do a brain dump to our SCM team every time a specific branch is created or merge is required, which ensures information isn't lost in translation. We manage over ten concurrent products with multiple customizations for each, including an extensive library of components. This required us to be able to look at and manage our overall development environment more graphically, and self manage it at a more granular level within each project. AccuRev fit the bill." Paul Vienneau, director, software development at NaviMedix |
|
| "AccuRev allows us to efficiently and reliably manage the inherent complexities of developing and releasing several software products, each having unique needs and schedules. With minimal training and administration, AccuRev has introduced process efficiencies which allow the staff to focus on the development and quality of our software products - not on the tools used in the development process." Atul Jain, Chairman and CEO, TEOCO "Integration with the Eclipse IDE was very important to us when selecting our new SCM vendor, as was robust support for release management activities. AccuRev offered parallel development support superior to that of the Eclipse integrations from the other SCM tools we evaluated. In particular, the Team Synchronize view has given our developers a near-seamless migration to AccuRev. We appreciate the attention by AccuRev in keeping the user interface truly integrated with Eclipse and similar to its built-in components, allowing our team to move forward with the new SCM implementation with minimal time lost in training." Joe Shelby, Technical Lead, TEOCO Corporation |

"AccuRev has optimized our US and India based software development teams to manage multiple parallel development streams and reduce our total cost and complexity of development and maintenance. The product was amazingly easy to implement and has been quite easy to maintain. We were so pleased with the AccuRev product implementation that we gave a corporate award to our Release Engineer for the smooth and efficient roll-out of the product." Steven Aulds, Senior VP, |

"AccuRev provides our teams with greater visibility into the current state of our release cycle than our previous SCM tool and enables our Agile development process better than any other SCM tool could have, increasing team productivity by magnitudes." "AccuRev is the foundation of our Continuous Integration methodology. If you don't have a good SCM system, the rest of the process doesn't work." Chris Barnes, Senior Systems Analyst and AccuRev Administrator, Alaska Airlines |
"Our software teams had been using Subversion for development but we were approaching what we felt were some of the limitations of the platform — engineers were trying to simultaneously develop new releases while supporting previous releases, share code in a selective fashion between developers, and to integrate all of that into our issue-tracking system. AccuRev's stream-based architecture provides the ability to address all of these issues, and the migration from Subversion to AccuRev was so seamless we did it during our normal development process. AccuRev also supports all of our development platforms – Linux, OS X, and Windows, has a simple and flexible licensing scheme, and has essentially been maintenance-free. I have used most of the major SCM platforms available, and now strongly recommend AccuRev for engineering teams doing parallel development." David Goldblatt, Vice President, Engineering, Ambient Corporation |

"We are producing leading-edge power and energy solutions and required a leading-edge SCM solution to meet our needs. The stream-based approach and diff/merging tools alone make AccuRev very powerful, but its flexibility is what makes it an SCM system that no development team should be without. We have saved countless hours off our release cycle time translating to real dollars saved. There is not a better product on the market for SCM than AccuRev." Carl Goode, Configuration Manager, Siemens AG Power Generation |
"We are passionately committed to quality and service where failure is not an option at Hyland Software. The 'Proof of Concept' team put AccuRev through its paces. We had to demonstrate to our CTO and CFO that we were selecting a SCM tool that would grow and scale with us and would not need to be replaced in the foreseeable future. Moving to AccuRev will allow us to work on different branches of the code in a more seamless manner which should increase our overall productivity and increase service. We are delighted with the results of moving to AccuRev and have been very pleased with our decision." George Angelato, Vice President, |

"As a strong ClearCase administrator, I find AccuRev to be an exceptional SCM tool for parallel development. AccuRev has taken the ideas of stream hierarchy and inheritance first developed by ClearCase and implemented them in a user friendly GUI environment that doesn't require senior SCM experience to understand. Setting up a project in AccuRev to support code promotion takes a fraction of the time it took in ClearCase. The notion of change packages not only supports bi-directional tracking for requirements management it allows for the easy removal of a change from a baseline. AccuRev is the first commercial SCM tool used at NCGR. The shift from a simple developer version control tool to a full SCM solution is often a painful process. There has been no such pain in our shift to AccuRev. In fact developers have touted the praise of AccuRev such that those projects not yet in AccuRev are asking the question, 'When do we get to come into AccuRev?'" Terri L Gomez, SCM Engineer, |
|
"Wow - Thanks for the fast response! While I have trouble getting some vendors to reply to anything, I get 2 replies within 10 minutes from AccuRev staff. This is not an isolated case either - during the last year, your fast responses to our issues have been beyond our expectations. Using JIRA as the issue tracker between AccuRev and customers makes it extremely easy to create new cases, communicate with tech support, and track their progress. Please forward my appreciation to your management!" Tyler Theobald, Change Management Systems Analyst, |

“AccuRev has provided us with greater flexibility and visibility into our development process and its automation of the patch release process has shaved nearly 50 percent off the time it took with our previous file-based SCM tool. As a result of merger and acquisition activity, a move toward more Agile processes and offshore development, AccuRev was the optimal solution to manage this increasingly parallel development model efficiently.” Rick Hoff, CTO, Tyler Technologies |

"I've been a developer for 10+ years and first saw AccuRev at this client gig I started about 4 weeks ago. In the past I've used PVCS (6+years ago), Visual Source Safe, ClearCase, CVS, and Tortoise SVN. Creating and managing ClearCase's views is so incredibly tedious in and of itself. I hated it from the beginning. Setting up a workspace and stream in AccuRev is so easy, that there is really no comparison. I really dig the AccuRev UI, and I'll be recommending your product to clients going forward. I'm glad you offer free single-user licenses for home use, very smart, gives developers a chance to get to know the product better, and now I don't have to use SVN. I'm totally blown away by it. Best version control system I've ever used. None of them hold a candle to AccuRev's UI." Jim Hoffman, Independent Contractor |

“We felt it would be a daunting task to deploy an entire ALM suite, but were unable to find one good enough in all categories of the lifecycle to justify its purchase. The integration between AccuRev and Visual Studio Team Foundation Server was done quickly due to both products' well documented APIs. We now benefit from an innovative software configuration management solution from AccuRev to meet the challenges of modern software engineering, while Microsoft provides us with the collaboration and integration platform to work in our Microsoft Visual Studio.NET Framework development environment.” Tomas Lundström, Configuration Management Manager, ReadSoft |
|
“AccuRev enabled us to improve our process to manage a large number of projects and move to a weekly integration and testing schedule while continually improving our code base through refactoring. We have increased development productivity by 20 percent when integrating changes from other projects alone, since adopting a short-cycle iterative development methodology with AccuRev. We are also finding defects sooner and spending far less time merging. This would never have been possible with our previous tool.” Dick Wallace, Technology Director |

"About 2 years ago, we moved away from an older file-based SCM tool. It was a smart decision and we're proud we chose AccuRev over the many other options we evaluated. It was ready to go from day one and needed very little configuration. AccuRev helps you do parallel development in ways 'old technology' tools just can't. They redesigned the process of parallel development from the ground up. The stream, workspaces, and promotion model concept works much better for parallel development than the older SCM technology tools that were never designed to support such process. Old school tools need complicated branch, merge and labeling processes and scripts to get it 'right.' I've seen no other tool that so readily shows the pending changes in a stream and the files that need merging. And the files that do need to be merged can be merged easily, with the 3-way merge tool. Inheritance is an often underestimated timesaver too. In many other tools, you actually have to promote 'upstream' and 'downstream!' AccuRev's flexibility helps us to evolve our processes and to mature our SCM. Applying each change is as easy as a little drag and drop (and sometimes a small model change in AccuWork). AccuRev is definitely one of the best." Eric Veltman, Software Engineer, Twinfield International |
“Maintaining multiple paths of development and merging changes is way easier in AccuRev than it ever was in Visual SourceSafe or Subversion. Just being able to pull changes from another developer's workspace or a stream and pop it into your own workspace without affecting anyone else is a great productivity saver.” Craig Denson, QA Engineer, DriveCam |

“Our previous development methodology was predicated on the limitations of our SCM tool and put us in a box. AccuRev not only modernized our development process, but enabled us to continually improve by rethinking our development processes. We realized immediate advantages with AccuRev by refactoring and adding continuous integration and its visual interface opened up new lines of communication and collaboration allowing us to do things that would be much harder or impossible in other SCM systems.” Christian Ratliff, Software Architect, DeLorme |
"In ClearCase terms, AccuRev's SCM stream hierarchy is a visual representation of all the config specs in the system--but it's much more. ClearCase's version tree browser shows relationships between branches and labels for a single element. AccuRev has a version browser for elements, but it also has a stream browser that shows relationships between config specs as well as changes living at a given config spec. Try moving all elements on a specified branch to a different branch using a ClearCase version browser, or try inserting an additional level of branching! With AccuRev, a new intermediate stream is a near-trivial matter of right-clicking a new stream and dragging the existing stream (or workspace) under the new stream. The pain of ClearCase config specs is a dim memory." Chris Walquist, Walquist Consulting Inc. |

"After evaluating many products and choosing AccuRev, any development scenario that comes up is now a breeze to implement and has virtually no administrative overhead. With private workspaces, developers get the confidence and tool support needed to take chances when working on features or larger refactorings. Thanks to the unique and powerful stream browser, we never worry or hesitate when it comes to branching. With a simple drag-and-drop operation, developers can jump into any branch to help out with a bug or feature, review progress or examine code. The ease with which this can be done is fantastic, and helps keep everyone aware of what's happening throughout the code-base. With other tools and processes already in place, we are always a bit concerned when it comes to bringing in something new. AccuRev makes it a breeze, though, especially through the XML-based output option of the command-line client. With very little effort we had integration for our custom bug/issue tracking system, build server and other internal tools. The time and cost savings of these integrations have been critical to our team and not only did AccuRev fit right in, it brought more visibility and a different perspective to our projects. AccuRev is one of those rare products which provides a huge boost in productivity not only by being great at what it does, but more importantly by letting you work exactly the way you want to work. Without a doubt, it's the best purchase we've made in years." Ryan LaNeve Director, Software Development Audio Visual Innovations, Inc. |

"Planview continues to seek vendor partners that will help us achieve more efficiency and productivity in the development of our superior product and portfolio management software products. AccuRev, in just a couple of months, has significantly improved collaboration and productivity between our multiple software development lifecycle stakeholders. Processes that were once manual and cumbersome in our previous file-based SCM tool are now completely locked down and enhanced traceability between multiple, concurrent releases has reduced risk and SCM effort in our development environment." Eric McVicker, Software Architect, Planview, Inc |
|
"Simply put, AccuRev is very good. We migrated from VSS to AccuRev due to the inability to support multiple versions with branching efficiently, data corruption and broken builds that brought development to a halt. AccuRev has given us stability in our development process and the ability to provide stable maintenance releases quickly. The ability to effectively lock down code via the permissioning on the streams is an elegant solution to what can cause project nightmares and code creep in VSS. AccuRev helps us mitigate that risk. Changing the development process is easy with the drag and drop facility. It also provides a nice view for senior management to get a handle on what is really involved in the development process and using change packages enables you to have greater control over feature rollout.
The TimeSafe architecture gives me assurance that I won't have these issues again. Another reason why we went with AccuRev is the excellent support we received throughout the evaluation and migration period. By far the best support I have seen from any software vendor I have dealt with in the past. In my opinion, the ROI of AccuRev is greater than that of other vendors. TFS was an option, but in the end too expensive and Perforce didn't quite have everything we needed." Craig Crevola, Lead Architect, Taten Pty Ltd. |

"Our consultancy, Biltmore Group AB, manages change to "one of Sweden's most visited sites," that was recently elected 4th Best Site in Internet World's 2006 Swedish issue Travel category. Fifty percent of the company's tickets are sold over the Web and if we make a big mistake, it may be front page news. We have recently restructured the architecture of the system and found that AccuRev was very good at keeping track of all files even when they changed name and location. The architecture project has run over a year in parallel with regular maintenance and the development of important new functionality. AccuRev has also been a huge productivity booster, increasing productivity for the average developer by 15-25 percent, and for me, the Configuration Manager, by more than 50 percent. The average time for deploying a new version has gone down from several hours to maybe 20 minutes. Before AccuRev and the architecture changes, we usually planned for 3-5 releases a year. Now we're talking about releasing a new version every one or two weeks!! In fact, I have not seen a tool before with which we would have been able to accomplish what we've done, and I have used three other SCM tools, including ClearCase in several projects before!" Johan Linderoth, Configuration Manager, Biltmore Group AB |

"We particularly favor the AccuRev software configuration management (SCM) package for a couple of reasons. Not only does this software help us to control our source code and, more importantly, our business processes relating to software development, but it too embraces the concept of interoperability with other packages through its bridging technology, AccuBridge. AccuRev bridges to issue tracking, project management, IDEs, and testing systems allowing us to obtain the best possible performing products while maintaining a common interface and business process. MedAvant is able to both procure and develop software which provides the best possible functionality, can be upgraded in a modular fashion and is of modest cost while preserving a common and pleasing user interface." Stephen Beaver, Chief Architect, MedAvant Healthcare Solutions |

"Our Federal, State and County government clients often require that their individual business processes be built into our OMS software demanding a high-level of customization to fit their particular needs. With over 800 customizable screens and forms in our product, AccuRev was the only SCM system that demonstrated the ability to efficiently handle this level of change and offer us the ability to improve global development collaboration at a low total cost of ownership." Randy Roesler, Engineering Manager, Syscon Justice Systems |
|
"Software configuration management (SCM) is a critical component of any application lifecycle management (ALM) solution. AccuRev enables us to implement a multivendor ALM solution to garner increased ROI where single-vendor ALM suites often fail to deliver on that promise." Dan Melchior , Director of Software, World Wide Packets |

"AccuRev provides us with an extremely beneficial integration to our SalesLogix CRM application by creating a closed loop support ticket system between sales, technical services and development. Now our sales and technical services staff have the real-time development status information right at their fingertips for all customer-reported defects or enhancement requests. Furthermore, when developments addressing defects and/or implementing enhancements has been achieved, the integration with AccuRev enables proactive responses back to waiting CRM customers." Mark Cooper, Director of Product Engineering, QGate |

"AccuRev's ability to dynamically change the software development process from the graphical Stream Browser saves us time and money. It eliminates the need for time-consuming, expensive scripting and a dedicated SCM administrator as we move resources in and out of projects. This will greatly enhance developer productivity. Also, AccuRev enhances overall productivity by efficiently managing our customer-specific code customizations in parallel with existing development projects and allows our team to effectively work remotely without worrying about coding conflicts." Bob Morley, Senior Software Developer, Software Innovation |

"AccuRev provides flexibility that we could only dream of with our previous SCM systems. It avoids hours or days of scripting and administration through an automatic drag-n-drop feature in the Stream Browser. This allows us to re-parent (re-target) a group of developers working on a particular feature or version to another, move their work-in-progress to a future release if we go into code freeze, or incorporate an additional test or regression area within the process with incredible ease and confidence." John Mears, Technical Architect, MessageLabs |

"AccuRev has improved our ability to visualize our parallel development environment with the AccuRev Stream Browser. We've also been able to simplify the management of multiple applications and releases without worrying about regressions, complicated merging, or what files have been modified or added to the project. Communication between development teams has also improved, and developers are more focused on development of the project than trying to focus on release management." Sheau-Huey Yuan, Applications Director, Corporate Information Services, National Semiconductor |

After a thorough analysis of several SCM tools, we selected AccuRev because the developer-private workspaces give us the security that no changes will be left unsaved. Restructuring projects works really great, because AccuRev treats all directories as versioned elements. AccuRev's streams and snapshots make it amazingly easy for us to keep track of all different development branches, while the administrative overhead is absolutely minimal. And as a bonus, we get integrated, customizable, issue tracking! Martin Trappel, Developer Kristl, Seibt & Co Ges.m.b.H. |
"AccuRev was the only SCM system that offered the sophisticated capabilities we require to achieve our product development objectives. In addition, AccuRev offers next-generation capabilities without adding administrative overhead. The combination of advanced SCM functionality with low implementation, training and on-going costs convinced Kronos that AccuRev was our best choice for managing product development with our large engineering staff." "One of Kronos' objectives is to serve our customers with market-leading ERM solutions while improving product quality and managing our costs. With AccuRev, we can now easily apply superior configuration management capabilities to our product development efforts. AccuRev enables us to optimize our distributed environment and move towards greater parallel development - two areas where our existing legacy SCM systems had proved to be deficient." John Morris, Director of Quality and Release Engineering, Kronos |
|
"Having a tool like AccuRev is a business advantage. Other ways of version control limit the number of balls you can juggle. Their constraints put a limit on what you can do at the product level. If your version control system can't keep pace with the business, it becomes a business problem. And no one developing code wants to become a business problem. Once you get used to how AccuRev works and the power and flexibility of the tool, you look back and say, this is obvious, why didn't someone else think of this before?" "AccuRev has made the management of multiple releases a reality at Acopia Networks. Traditional SCM tools become extremely complicated when managing multiple branches of shared assets and projects can not be organized in a hierarchical way. AccuRev is also ideally suited for application integration and release tasks, with built-in issue tracking and flexibility to use third-party issue tracking as required." Chris Geggis, Release Manager, Acopia Networks Inc. |
"Best-of-breed ALM significantly increases our ability to stay in control of our lifecycle environment and utilize the strongest tools in their respective category. With AccuRev at the center of our tool strategy, we have the optimal ALM platform for compliance and artifact traceability at the lowest total cost of ownership." Bill Houglum, Director of Engineering at Birdstep Technology "After several weeks of searching for alternative SCM and issue tracking systems, I discovered AccuRev and its fresh outlook on the whole methodology. They truly took the product lifecycle and turned it into a graphical tool that makes it extremely easy to see the progress of not only new development, but also gave us the ability to easily control the process of bug submission, testing, fixing, and verification. We transitioned from two different SCM systems with a non-integrated issue tracking system to using AccuRev across the board for our three product lines. This transition was accomplished with a minimum of problems or fuss, due mostly to the company's excellent product support personnel. They provided extremely prompt, courteous and knowledgeable support during our transition and beyond. It was also extremely easy to customize the Issue tracking side of the product to fit our workflow and needs. Right after this transition, we completed the release of new versions for two of our product lines simultaneously and right on schedule. The use of the stream hierarchy has truly made our vision for development, build support and QA much closer to reality. In our line of business, we are required to support numerous versions of our product as our customers embed our software within their applications. Usually they wish to have minimal changes made to our code so that their code changes can similarly be minimal, preventing long testing and verification/certification cycles. AccuRev makes the control over this process extremely easy, especially in comparison to traditional SCM approaches. We are able to isolate changes into separate streams until the proper QA processes have been completed and only then merge that code into the main codebase and ready it for release to customers. Thanks again for a great product and the great support!" Kevin Tucker, Build Engineer, Birdstep Technology |
